What did you earn in your last job?

6. What did you earn in your last job?

Try to avoid answering this question outright. If you don't, you might be lowering your potential new salary. A good response is to say that you don't want to prejudice yourself by being too high or too low. Try changing the topic by asking if they have a salary range in mind. If it's completely unavoidable, mention the salary range you were in and make it slightly higher than what you actually earned. For example, if your earnings fell into the low 80's say mid-80's; if your earnings fell in the mid 80's, say low 90's.
